During this six week class we will explore the basic principles of landscape painting; including composition, value, depth, and color. We will paint directly from life in parks and wild spaces around Eugene, and learn to record some of the subtleties of nature while altering what we see to create compelling images. Sometimes focus is key, and we will spend a few classes studying trees, fields and hills, water, and clouds before expanding our view to paint complete landscapes. This class will also touch on essential techniques of oil painting such as paint application, edge control, and color mixing. While oil is my medium of choice, students are welcome to bring any other painting mediums that they have experience working in and would like to try in the field! Prior painting experience is preferred.
